Welsh Springer Spaniel

Welsh Springer Spaniel
The Welsh Springer Spaniel, or its forerunner, is mentioned in the earliest records of the Laws of Wales, dating back to about 1300. It is also possible that these red and white spaniels are a cross between the English Springer and the Clumber. Certainly, the breed has the Brittany in its ancestry, being similar both in its ability as a gundog and in conformation. This loyal and hard-working gundog is somewhere between the English Cocker Spaniel and the English Springer Spaniel in size. It is a good swimmer, has an excellent nose, and combines the role of family dog and sportsman's companion provided the need for exercise is met. It needs brushing daily, and regular checks to make sure that mud does not become lodged in its paws or ears.
