| The Swedish Vallhund is known in its native land
as Vastgotaspets, which means "spitz of the West
Goths." It closely resembles the Welsh Corgis,
although the Vallhund is somewhat higher in the
leg and shorter in the back. Undoubtedly there is a
connection between the breeds, but whether Corgis
taken by the Vikings to Sweden developed into
the Vallhund or Swedish dogs brought to Britain
developed into Corgis is not known. Like the
Corgi, the Vallhund is a splendid cattle dog.
The Swedish Vallhund is a friendly, loyal,
affectionate little dog, described in its standard as
active and eager to please. It makes a good family
pet and needs plenty of exercise.
