Smooth Collie

Smooth Collie
The Smooth Collie is identical to the Rough Collie except in coat, that of the Smooth being short and flat, with a harsh-textured top coat and a very dense undercoat. Both Collies' ancestors were brought 400 years ago from Iceland to Scotland, where the breed worked as a sheepdog. Like the Rough, the modern Smooth Collie can trace its ancestry to a tricolor dog called Trefoil that was born in 1873. The Smooth Collie has the same character and temperament as the Rough, and its care requirements are also the same. Sadly, although the Smooth Collie has all the attributes of the Rough, it is seldom seen. However, the variety does have a dedicated small band of followers and there are many excellent examples with first-class temperaments in the beauty and obedience rings.
