This breed was once classified with, and known as,
the Norwich Terrier. The drop-eared Norfolk Terrier
and the prick-eared Norwich Terrier originated in the
East Anglian area of England. Both dogs were known
as Norwich Terriers from as early as the 1880s. They
were probably a mixture of Cairn, Border, and Irish
Terriers, and their litters contained both prick-eared
and drop-eared varieties. The only difference between
the Norfolk and Norwich today is still their ears.
A sociable dog, this hardy, lovable terrier is alert
and fearless, but it is good with children, has an
equable temperament, and makes a fine pet for those
prepared to exercise it. It enjoys a day's rabbiting, and
honorable scars are not a drawback in the show ring.
It requires daily brushing, and some trimming is all
the preparation that is needed for exhibition. |
