Flat coated Retriever

Flat coated Retriever
Once known as the Wavy-coated Retriever, the breed is thought to have evolved from the Labrador Retriever and spaniels. It is likely that collie blood was introduced to produce the flat coat. The Flat-coat is superlative at picking up game, and it is an excellent wildfowler and water dog. It is loyal and affectionate, and although it can be kept as a pet, most Flat-coats are maintained for the job for which the breed was originally bred and they are happiest when doing this. An intelligent dog with a kindly temperament, it is a hardy breed and many owners choose to keep their Flat-coats in outside kennels, although this is a matter of preference. Like most gundogs. Flat-coats need plenty of exercise and a daily brushing.
