Eskimo Dog

Eskimo Dog
This hardy, strong spitz dog was developed to haul sleds in and around the Arctic Circle. The American polar explorer Robert Peary considered that there was only one breed of sled dog with regional variations, but now a number of breeds are recognized. The Eskimo Dog probably originated in eastern Siberia, and shared common ancestry with the Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, and Samoyed. It bears a considerable resemblance to the Greenland Dog, but the Eskimo Dog is shorter in the back and weightier. The Eskimo Dog is an excellent sled dog of remarkable endurance. It is a fine guard and rarely lives indoors with its owners. It relishes vigorous outdoor exercise and a job of work, and benefits from regular brushing.
