Anatolian Shepherd Dog

Anatolian Shepherd Dog
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog, previously known as the Anatolian Karabash, has existed for centuries, from the Anatolian plateau of Turkey right across Afghanistan. Such large, powerful, and heavy headed dogs have lived in the area since Babylonian times and were once used as war dogs and to hunt big game such as lions and even horses. However, their more usual job was to guard sheep, and shepherds would crop their ears and fit them with spiked collars to help them defend flocks from predators. This powerful, loyal, and loving dog is good with children, makes a fine watchdog, and is eminently trainable. However. it cannot be kept in a confined space, is not suited to town life, and does not take kindly to strangers. It requires considerable exercise, and should be brushed regularly.
